For the first six months of 1997 I performed the role of anthropologist within the Cadre-Net.
Anthropological and ethnographic methodology were then used to reconstruct/invent the story

the game are theoretical subtexts relating to the varied gender subject positions occupied by Madame
Polly; Madame Polly as sex toy for men, Madame Polly as dominatrix, Madame Polly as drag queen,
Madame Polly as feminist role model, and Madame Polly as abject pleasure for women. |

The JTDDS is most usefully considered as a reflection of the thesis that we
live in a surveillance based society where privacy is no longer evident or
even possible. It speculates a complex in which various web audiences, the
network, and the software itself form a hyperreal nexus which exists in the
form of distributed traces at the macro level as instantiated in various
network nodes. This participatory projection of a void demarcated by specific
kinds of messages into a hyperspace consisting exclusively of military servers
inverts and welcomes the implications of a surveillance based society. |
